Since 2004, Operazione Colomba volunteers have been living in the Palestinian village of At-Tuwani, in the Hills south of Hebron.
In Area C, under Israeli civilian and military control, the life of Palestinians is confronted with continuous injustice: demolitions, unjustified arrests, military raids and attacks by settlers and soldiers mark the daily life of families in the area and throughout Palestine.
Thepresence of the volunteers is necessary: they monitor daily the Israeli military escort that accompanies Palestinian children from the villages of Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed to the school in At-Tuwani; they accompany farmers and shepherds on their lands close to settlements and outposts; they monitor and denounce the continuous checkpoints, arrests, military training and demolitions that take place in the area. The denunciations of Human Rights violations are possible thanks to a continuous documentation (photos and videos). Living inside the village, the volunteers share with the families the risks, the discomforts but also the happy moments of every day, involving themselves in their daily life.
In recent years, the presence of new groups of young Palestinian activists has allowed Operazione Colomba volunteers to lighten their presence in the Hills south of Hebron to bring their support to other areas, particularly north of Jericho, in the Jordan Valley. Here too, entering into the daily lives of families, volunteers have begun to accompany the shepherds of the area.
In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic, volunteers continued to share their daily lives with Palestinians, even through alternative methods. Violations, due to the reduced presence of international volunteers, have increased, both by settlers and soldiers. Hoping for a strong and stable presence comes from the words of the Palestinians, who at every opportunity greet the volunteers with a warm "Ahlan wa sahlan", welcome, or better, welcome home. That's why your help is important, to continue to guarantee these families safety and protection.
