Your help to continue to be family for those who are lonely
The Gian Paolo and Paola Family House of the Pope John XXIII Community is in urgent need of some work, which is essential for the people with disabilities who live there: such as Michael, who because of his severe disability cannot walk and will only be able to continue living with his family if a lifting platform is installed in the house. The expense is high, let's help them together reach the goal to allow them to be family for those who don't have one!
In Pontremoli, Gian Paolo and Paola's Family House "Santa Maria dell'Annunciazione" has welcomed many people in more than 25 years of life: children, pregnant mothers or with newborns in a time of difficulty, people from prison, people with mental and physical disabilities, and lonely elderly people.
Currently nine people live in the Family House. In addition to mom Paola and dad Gian Paolo, there are their two natural children aged 17 and 24; Michela with Down syndrome, adopted and in the home with them for 30 years; 15-year-old Cristina in foster care since the age of three with infantile cerebral palsy; 8-year-old Michael, in foster care for almost eight years with severe cerebral palsy; a gentleman in an alternative measure to prison ; and a 75-year-old missionary community member.
Theirs is a large house in the center of town, convenient to the services and needs of the people who live there but has a problem: it is arranged on three floors with no elevator. The management of daily life has now become very difficult especially for Cristina and Michael because due to their disability they find it very difficult to walk and move around.
Therefore, some works are needed such as the renovation of the bathroom so that it is suitable for people with reduced mobility and the construction of a lifting platform.These works will be essential especially for people with disabilities but also for older people, present and future. The lifting platform is really essential because only by installing it will Michael be able to continue to live with Paola and Gian Paolo, to live with his mom, dad, and siblings.
The expense for this work is really very high, but thanks to the Community, some savings and help from friends and acquaintances a part has already been covered. Paola and Gian Paolo still need to raise €40,000 to be able to start the work and allow the people housed in their home to continue living with them.
