Operation Dove in Colombia - 2024

Operation Dove volunteers are present in the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó to provide the civilian population with greater security and hope for a better life. Support them to build peace with them.

Since 2009, Operation Dove has been present in the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó, in northwestern Colombia, to support the local population in defending Human Rights and their territories.
In 2016 the Colombian government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) signed a Peace Accord, but other illegal armed groups have occupied the lands left by the guerrillas, often subduing the civilian population, with targeted killings of social leaders and people defending Human Rights and the environment.
The Peace Community is a group of women farmers and peasants who live in small villages spread over a large area. These people have chosen to nonviolently resist threats from armed groups interested in controlling the territory, challenging an economic model that is based on human and environmental exploitation, practicing a way of life that puts people, community and the environment at the center.
Operation Dove's presence is requested by the Peace Community itself because it serves as a deterrent to the use of violence. Operation Dove volunteers protect members of the Peace Community by accompanying them on their often very difficult journeys through the city or along paths that are sometimes mined and traveled by armed groups. In addition, Operation Dove collects information on Human Rights violations for advocacy actions.
All activities serve to provide the civilian population with greater security and hope for a better life in a country considered among the most dangerous in the world for those who defend Human Rights and the environment. Support those who choose to leave with Operation Dove to continue building Peace with them.
