Proyecto Sol - The light of inclusion

In Chile, the Pope John XXIII Community's Project Sun is aimed at deaf women with the goal of creating new life opportunities for them and enabling them to express their uniqueness without fear of being judged or excluded. Until now, the Center has always been free and funded by the State, but this will no longer be the case. To continue to exist, it urgently needs your help. Support it too!

Until now, the Center has always been free and funded by the State, but this will no longer be the case. To continue to exist, it urgently needs your help. Support it too!

The Pope John XXIII Community's "Project Sun" is a project created in Santiago, Chile , for deaf girls and women to create a safe environment in which each of them can spend time together, learn sign language and thus express themselves freely and grow, together with other people with similar experiences and backgrounds.

Social and economic barriers are often an obstacle for deaf people, even more so in contexts of poverty and marginalization. The center breaks down these barriers and for the women who come to it, most of whom come from very poor and often violent family backgrounds, it becomes a beacon of hope and change.
Through cooking workshops, money management, training courses and even just spending days together and building relationships of friendship and support, the women hosted find new opportunities and are able to express their uniqueness without fear of being judged or excluded.

A step towards building a community in which every voice is heard, respected and valued.

The center has always been free of charge, precisely to encourage attendance and participation by all, and until now has been maintained thanks to state contributions from the Chilean government. However, in a few months it will cease to be so. At the end of 2023 the project will find itself without funding and in order to be able to continue guaranteeing these women the support they need there are only two ways left: to ask those who attend the course to pay a fee - but this would mean that many, precisely those who need it most, would not be able to afford it and would return to marginalization and oblivion - or to find the necessary funds to maintain it on the other hand.

So here is our plea for help: help us raise the amount needed to keep Project Sunshine open for everyone!

We need to cover the annual costs of the facilities (6,000€/5,544,408$) and the costs of hiring an occupational therapist (5,000€/4,620,340$), a key professional figure to help deaf women develop employable skills and personal abilities.

Support the activities of "Project Sun" with a donation and multiply your help by starting an online fundraiser to share with your friends and raise even more together. Your support is essential to continue feeding the light of inclusion and integration.
