Operation Dove in Lebanon - 2020
Thousands of displaced people are still living in refugee camps in northern Lebanon, many of them here in Tel Abbas, together with our volunteers who share their suffering but also their hope. Support them to build peace together.
Since September 2013, Operazione Colomba has been working alongside Syrian refugees in the Tel Abbas camp in northern Lebanon.
The situation in Syria, where since 2011 a war has been fought between pro- and anti-government forces, remains disastrous: 400,000 dead, 6.5 million displaced, 5 million refugees forced to leave the country; more than a million of them have sought shelter in neighbouring Lebanon (with only 4.5 million inhabitants).
Operazione Colomba's volunteers live in the camp together with the refugees to stay close to them and help them in their daily life.
The presence of volunteers is necessary: they visit the most fragile families to give them support; they create moments of encounter to calm tensions and encourage dialogue; they organize moments of entertainment and animation for children; they collect testimonies useful to monitor and denounce violations of human rights; they support and promote the "Peace Proposal" for Syria developed together with Syrian refugees, thanks also to the support of some institutions and civil society.
The presence of volunteers mitigates the harshness of life in the refugee camp (particularly difficult due to extreme poverty, tensions and lack of perspectives), but the situation is still critical and the conditions of refugees are very precarious.
