In the heart of Misundu, Zambia, the Cicetekelo Project, of the Pope John XXIII Community, is dedicated to welcoming and caring for street children and youth living in hardship and poverty. The young people involved in the project receive shelter, food, education and job training; they, too, have a right to a life of dignity, so they are accompanied on their path of growth until they are reintegrated into the community.
The days start early in the Center and, after a quick breakfast, the children sit between school desks, while the older ones prepare for job training and sports.
Between activities, the morning goes by quickly and the belly starts to make itself felt! At the sound of the 12 o'clock siren, everyone heads to the Center's cafeteria where children, youth and operators share a meal. A good plate of Nshima, a cooked cornmeal that is the staple of the local diet, is just what is needed to recharge and tackle the afternoon's work and activities.
For a while now, however, when the 12 o'clock siren sounds, there have been long lines, delays and problems in preparing meals - as many as 300 every day! Due to a malfunction, in fact, industrial equipment used for cooking has burned out, creating many difficulties in organizing lunch and dinner. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find the resources that will enable the Center's canteen to become operational again and be able to prepare the necessary meals for all the children and youth of Cicetekelo!
The cost of the kitchen equipment is €6,000 and reaching the goal means being able to return the certainty of a hot meal to children and youth who know hunger and hope never to have to experience it again.
Help them now, donate now or multiply your contribution by creating your own fundraiser to share with your friends and family. The network widens and together we reach the finish line! Every contribution counts for the children and youth of Cicetekelo!
Come on, are you in?
