Additional donations will be used to cover the cost of painting and repairing the bathrooms. Help Comedor volunteers reach the goal to enable them to continue to stand by those who have nothing and no one left.

The meal is just the first step
The comedor (soup kitchen) "Grandfather Orestes," of the Pope John XXIII Community, is located in Peñalolén (Santiago, Chile) and provides hot meals and support to the area's poorest and most vulnerable people. The soup kitchen, open Monday through Friday, offers breakfast and lunch to nearly 100 people and also provides clothing and personal hygiene products, with shower facilities for those who need them. Here at the Comedor, help goes beyond the hot meal because real friendships are built. Through collaboration with schools, we also strive to raise awareness among children on issues such as poverty and dignity, helping them understand how helping others and volunteering are important and constructive.

Fundraising goal:
The Comedor, which has always been a focal point for the most fragile people, is now facing significant challenges due to roof damage from heavy rains. The electrical system is also damaged as well as the interior walls. Cracks in the roof cause continuous flooding, compromising the ability to welcome and help those who rely on our help. Urgent action is needed before the winter season arrives, when rains could aggravate the situation to the point of forced closure.

4,000€ is needed for roof maintenance and renovation work and to enable volunteers to continue offering hot meals, showers, clothing and support to those in need. We need your help to keep alive the hope and dignity of people like Katrinè, who thanks to the relationships built here at the Comedor overcame her drug addiction and is now ready to raise her baby on the way, or volunteers like Jorge who from being welcomed and needy, now devotes his time to cooking and caring for those who have lived through the same past as him. Once the goal is exceeded, additional donations will be used to cover the cost of painting and repairing the bathrooms.

You can support this project in two ways:
  • Donate to an already active personal fundraiser: any contribution, even the smallest, will make a difference.
  • If, on the other hand, you want to do something even bigger, activate a personal fundraiser and help us involve many new people we otherwise could not reach by asking your friends, family and colleagues to support you with a donation. This way you multiply your support and help us rebuild the soup kitchen, an indispensable place for so many poor and homeless people.
