A roof of hope for our soup kitchen in Chile
Fundraising by Placido Mastronardo
Hello everyone, I am Placido and I have been a member of the Pope John XXIII Community for more than 20 years. I am currently on mission in Chile and with my wife Ana we are responsible for the Comedor, a facility located in Peñalolen, statistically considered one of the poorest areas of Santiago.
For years we have been dedicated to offering hot meals and support to the poorest and most vulnerable people in the area. We open the facility Monday through Friday, offering breakfast and lunch to nearly 100 people, and we also provide clothing and personal hygiene products, with shower facilities for those who need them. The hot meal is the means by which our Community comes into contact with our neighbors.
We as community members do not see this as a job but are driven by our vocation, to directly share life with the least of these, taking charge of their situation by trying to give them support and a voice, going beyond prejudice .
My wife and I decided to open this campaign because in recent years the roof structure has become increasingly damaged.
Cracks in the roof, caused by heavy winter rains, have created continuous flooding, compromising the ability to welcome and help those who rely on our help. There is an urgent need to take action on the roof renovation and electrical system before the next winter season arrives, when rains could aggravate the situation to the point of forced closure.
We need your help to be able to do this work with a total cost of €4,000. Help us keep the hope and dignity of people who frequent our Comedor alive!
You can support this project in two ways:
- Donate to my fundraiser: any contribution, even the smallest, will make a difference.
- If, on the other hand, you want to do something even bigger, activate a personal fundraiser as well and help us engage many new people we otherwise could not reach by asking your friends, family and colleagues to support you with a donation.
