Help for Paolo and Anna Tonelotto: a life spent alongside the most fragile people

Paolo and Anna have been sharing their lives with the poor for more than 30 years, becoming a family for whoever is welcomed into their home. As in every family history, now it is urgent and necessary to "take care" of the house, fixing what the years have worn out and starting the necessary maintenance and adjustment works. With your help and thanks to you, Paolo and Anna will be able to continue to give themselves to the most fragile in a place that respects their needs.

Paolo and Anna, back in 1986, made a life choice that continues to this day: to live the vocation of the Pope John XXIII Community and share their lives with the poor. Their family has become the family of Italian and foreign children in search of guidance, of lonely mothers, lost and victims of violence, of people with serious disabilities that no one wants. In 1994, Paolo, Anna and their children left as missionaries for Chile, where they set up projects to help and welcome people in situations of serious hardship that the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII still runs today.

Paolo and Anna have been more than a point of reference: for more than 100 people in all these years they have been a real family! One of the first people taken in was Paolo, a very serious autistic child who is now 46 years old and still lives with them. Paolo is not the only "historical" figure, others have spent a large part of their lives within these walls, without ever doubting that this was their family, and those who have lived in this house only in passing, have received so much love that they have been able to find the strength and resources for a path to full autonomy. Paolo and Anna's three natural children, now adults, follow the same choice of life and vocation as their parents, so much so that they have chosen to open themselves up to hospitality, some in Italy and some abroad.

Since 1998, on their return from Chile to Italy, so much has been experienced within the walls of their home! Currently the family consists of 8 people and some of the children received have severe physical or mental disabilities, but the time has come when it is urgent to take care of this place to fix what the years have worn but especially what needs to be adapted to people who have grown up and maybe aged, for this we need help.

We urgently need to start maintenance work to ensure that the house continues to be a safe and welcoming place: for example, the flooring outside the house needs to be replaced because it is uneven and dangerous for people who have difficulty walking and moving. Work is also needed on the plumbing and sewage systems, which are broken and battered by time and wear and tear.

The Pope John XXIII Community, to which Paolo and Anna belong, supports more than 200 such Family-Homes in Italy and around the world and has to meet many expenses to ensure that everyone has what they need. There are times when it is difficult to find the resources to respond promptly to everyone and to the many emergencies: in those cases, like today, we are forced to "extend our hand", entrusting ourselves to the charity of others and to providence, asking for support and help.

We trust in the understanding and help of the many friends and people that Paolo and Anna have met in this rich life, to help them find the economic resources needed at this time.
