Imagine a big house where every elderly person can be a grandfather: that's it, it's the "Sant'Anna Grandparents' House," born in 2015 from the meeting between St. Mary Help of Christians Parish in Forlì and the sharing experience of the Pope John XXIII Community, to respond to the increasingly urgent need to counter the loneliness of the third age.
People cook, sing, exercise their bodies and minds, and experience moments of prayer together. Parish life, the involvement of volunteers and the presence of the workers' children at certain times and periods make the Home a truly family-like environment, and therefore warm and welcoming.
Since the arrival of the pandemic, however, the pace has changed and there have been periods of forced closure during the harshest lockdown. For the past few months activity has resumed but many activities have been suspended and the number of people attending the center each day has been reduced to protect them first and also the workers. Attendance has remained constant but adapting times and ways.
All this has led to times of great difficulty, not only for the center itself and its livelihood but especially for the families who are used to finding help here in the daily management of their family members. Supporting the possibility for the elderly to remain in their living contexts, together with the people they love, in fact, is often possible by offering them a place where they can spend hours in each other's company, so as to counter psychophysical decay and loneliness and provide relief for the families.
To date, a maximum of 8 to 10 people can be accommodated in the center, although there are many more requests. The few current resources do not allow for the creation of more groups and equipping new spaces where more seniors can be accommodated, in total safety. In addition, this past year the parish has also taken on the free participation fee that would allow the center's activities to be sustained, but which many elderly people in need are unable to guarantee. Their peace of mind is the first thing, so we have not closed our doors to them, but now we need someone to help the Quarry Parish find the resources to continue these activities.
The "Sant'Anna Grandparents' House" is a fundamental presence in the Forlì area, and that is why we are asking for your help. Families and the elderly cannot be left alone, especially after the year we have just lived through, forced into extreme loneliness. To stand by them we need your support.
Create your own fundraiser and give it life by sharing it with your friends, relatives, colleagues or acquaintances. Or support the House volunteers and workers who have put themselves on the line for this project. Everything donated will come directly into the parish's bank account. Let's help them together!
