One car, many paths of life
Giorgio and Maria Chiara, father and mother of the Family House "Il Cireneo," have been taking in people in need of a safe haven for more than 30 years. Along with them live 5 other people, each with their own needs and requirements. For them, who live 10km from the town, having a safe and functioning car is essential. One of their two cars has been in a serious accident and they urgently need to buy a new car so they can all move together. The cost is 22,000€ and to be able to cover the expenses they also need your help.
In the small village of Roverchiara, in the province of Verona, there is a place where those left alone can find the comfort they need. It is the Family House "Il Cireneo," which for 30 years has been welcoming those who need a mom and dad, a sheltered refuge, a place from which to start over.
Like Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry the cross and to whom the Home is dedicated, Giorgio and Maria Chiara, the Father and Mother of the Family Home, have chosen to dedicate their lives to helping those in need, accompanying them for a short stretch or for a lifetime.
Throughout the years, Giorgio and Maria Chiara, together with their 3 children, have taken in people with mental and physical disabilities, prisoners, women who have escaped from prostitution, and young people with family hardship.
They currently have 5 people living with them: Paolo, who is 49 years old and was the first to arrive when he was only 16; Giuliana, a 65-year-old lady; Michael, a 19-year-old boy; Marilena, who is 51; and Alessandro, who is 26.
Each of them, in his or her own way and according to his or her abilities, is fully integrated in the social context and has embarked on a path of reintegration -including employment- at Day Care Centers and local realities. Those who can move independently using public transportation, but every day Giorgio and Maria Chiara have to travel to accompany those who cannot do so on their own or to reach places that are not served by transportation .
The Family Home is located in the countryside, 10 kilometers from the best-served town, and in order to meet the many needs of the people accommodated, they need two cars. Recently, however, one of the two cars suffered a major accident, and they are left with only an old car that has nearly 350,000 km and which they can only use for short trips.
That is why they urgently need to buy a new car that has 7 seats so they can all move together. The model that suits them costs 22,000 €, but the Pope John XXIII Community has to provide for the needs of more than 500 host organizations and cannot take on this expense as well. The purchase of a new car is the House's priority... we trust in the help of many to be able to meet other small needs as well, such as the purchase of a new sofa and a new television, important elements in a house like theirs, to live all together moments of sharing.
