A tractor to keep dreaming

In Assisi, young people with disabilities and in difficulty find work at "La Fraternità", a social cooperative of the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII. Here they learn how to produce oil, but today they need a new tractor to carry out all the operations necessary for production and to continue to educate themselves through working the land.

Let's help them.

"La Fraternità," a social cooperative of the Pope John XXIII Community, was created to give work to people living in fragile contexts, to "put together" experiences, services and relationships, to be a large family for those left on the margins of society, which educates and educates, which works and gives work. One of the operating locations-our little hearth-began here in Assisi with the name "Via del Monte Oliveto "and was born about twenty years ago, with olive trees and oil production.
These trees were the first labor and employment response for disabled boys who attended the cooperative's Day Center, for those from prison, for young women victims of the street and for all the boys from the Community Family Homes in the area, who at the time had no other opportunities to feel useful and integrated. Thousands of boys have learned a profession and found in work and care of the land, a concrete possibility to reintegrate into society and regain their dignity.
In recent times we have strengthened our oil cultivation activity but, unfortunately, The small tractor that used to help us in our daily work has broken down and in order to work at our best it is essential for us to have a suitable vehicle that allows us to perform all the work, from chopping to harvesting, from tilling the soil to treating the trees, without having to resort to third parties or borrowed vehicles. We urgently need a wheeled orchard tractor by September so that we will be self-sufficient for this year's first olive harvest.
The oil that comes from the work of young people in contact with the land is not only a great product-an ancient gift-it is much more, it is the demonstration that people in difficulty or with disabilities, those who are usually "discarded" from the world of work, can contribute, prove to be necessary, but only if they are recognized and valued in their abilities and inclinations. Having this new tractor means so much to us: not only to improve the work process but above all to grow to continue to stand by the weakest in respect and symbiosis with creation that freely gives us the earth and life.
