Let's rebuild together a home open to the world

In the Pilastro neighborhood of Bologna, the family of Giulia and Matteo, of the Pope John XXIII Community, opens its heart every day to welcome those in need, while also promoting a culture of inclusion and creating opportunities to meet and grow. Now they have to move to a new house that urgently needs some renovation work to make it suitable for future welcomes. Help them raise the €8,000 they need!

Now they have to move to a new house that urgently needs some renovation work to make it suitable for future welcomes. Help them raise the €8,000 they need!

A choice of life, to give what we have received
Matthew and Julia are the dad and mom of the "Pamoja" open family of the Pope John XXIII Community, where they live with their 6 children "from the belly and heart."
Together, as children, they went out to discover the world and together, as adults, they have chosen to do their part to make the world a more just and welcoming place .
After living on mission and touching injustice firsthand, they understand that you don't need to live on the other side of the world to put the Gospel into practice because the Family Home allows you to have the world at home. So they choose to open their hearts and their family to anyone who had been in need, to live missionality every day and try, together, to redress injustice.

The Pillar, a community we fell in love with and hold dear to our hearts
The family home is located in the Pilastro neighborhood in Bologna: a difficult, stigmatized area fraught with challenges, but rich in opportunities and potential.
For years Giulia and Matteo, in addition to their choice of sharing and welcoming families, have spent their efforts to promote a culture of inclusion, creating opportunities for all children to meet and grow that allow them to have the same rights and opportunities, regardless of background, religion or socioeconomic conditions.

We want to live and be home for all and of all
The house they live in is owned by the municipality but they can no longer stay there. Giulia and Matteo have been given the opportunity to move to an old rectory nearby, which will allow them to continue the path they started in the neighborhood, which for many families is now a point of reference.
This move will also be an opportunity to be a supportive presence for a number of young people - from different countries around the world - who live in a small house adjacent to the main house and who are on a path of social and labor insertion.

In order to make it suitable to house the children they have and those the Lord will want to send them, they will have to do some renovation work and redo the facilities. 8,000 € is needed but the community is currently unable to meet this expense. That is why Julia and Matthew have launched this fundraiser and today they are asking for your help.

You can support this project in two ways:
  • Donate to an already active personal fundraiser: any contribution, even the smallest, will make a difference.
  • If, on the other hand, you want to do something even bigger, activate a personal fundraiser and help us involve many new people we otherwise could not reach by asking your friends, family and colleagues to support you with a donation. This way you multiply your support and help Matthew and Julia reach more people!
If you want to begin a journey that will take you farther and farther, I say to you: always love first, love freely, love without asking for an answer, love because you are a child of God.
