Operation Dove in Lebanon - 2023
Operation Dove volunteers share life and work alongside Syrian refugees still living in camps across the country. Supporting, helping and protecting them means still believing in the strength of relationships and the peace that comes from staying close and dreaming together.
Since 2013, Operation Dove has been present alongside Syrian refugees in the Tel Abbas camp in northern Lebanon and other camps in the Bekaa Valley.
The situation in Syria, where a war pitting different pro- and anti-government forces has been fought since 2011, remains dire: 400,000 dead, 6.5 million displaced, 5 million refugees forced to flee the country; of these more than a million have sought shelter in neighboring Lebanon (of only 4.5 million inhabitants).
Operazione Colomba volunteers live together with the refugees to stand by them and be a listening and supporting presence in their daily lives.
The presence of the volunteers is very important: they visit the most fragile families to give them support; they create moments of encounter to calm tensions and encourage dialogue; they organize moments of entertainment and animation for children; they collect useful testimonies to monitor and denounce violations of Human Rights; they participate in the reception of Syrian families in Italy and Europe through Humanitarian Corridors; they support and promote the "Peace Proposal" for Syria elaborated together with Syrian refugees, thanks also to the support of some Institutions and civil society.
The presence of the volunteers mitigates the harshness of life in the refugee camp (which is particularly difficult due to the extreme and continuously worsening poverty, tensions and lack of prospects), but the situation is increasingly critical and the conditions of the refugees have worsened considerably due to the increasing inflation that is driving thousands of families to starvation.
Support volunteers to build Peace together with them and not leave these people alone.
