In Chieti, Bethlehem Hut was established more than 10 years ago to offer a hug, the warmth of a real family, to those who find themselves at the mercy of life. It is here that hundreds of people, fragile and lost, find a roof, a bed and, above all, dignity. Unemployed, lonely people, victims of domestic violence, young people seeking redemption after prison or addiction: everyone finds a place at the Hut, an opportunity to start over. In addition to residential shelter, the Street Unit starts right here to reach out to trafficked girls and homeless brothers and sisters living on the streets of Chieti.
Bethlehem Hut is a home, but like any home, it ages and needs care. Today, more than ever, it needs your help. The building is old and worn out, and the safety and well-being of the people we welcome are at risk.
We need to act now: the boiler needs to be replaced, the water system completely redone, and part of the apartments needs a major renovation to redistribute the space in a functional and welcoming way. We are talking about a total cost of more than 100,000 euros, a significant amount of money that we cannot bear alone. Every day, the Hut welcomes about 50 people, and to continue to be a safe haven, these works are indispensable. We cannot wait.
Since 2014, more than 1,000 people have crossed the threshold of the Bethlehem Hut in Chieti. Behind every number is a story, a face, a reborn existence. Here we don't just offer a meal or a bed: we offer an opportunity to take back one's life.
