A bus for Shibu and our family!
Fundraising by Sara Foschi
Hi, we are Sara and Attilio who have been married for five years and the adoptive family of Shibu, a Bengali boy with infantile cerebral palsy. I have lived as a lay missionary in Bangladesh with the Pope John XXIII Community for 12 years and have known Shibu since his early years, when Don Oreste met him - malnourished and dying: he was 2 years old and weighed only 2kg. Shibu is now 24 years old, with a wonderful smile and a life full of love.
Today our dream is to be able to buy a more capacious vehicle suitable for our large family, which, in addition to Shibu, takes in people who need help and a safe place to live. To get around, we use a Doblò that is equipped to transport the disabled but has only three seats plus a wheelchair.
Together with us in fact live Anna, our natural daughter, Maruf, who is the person who has always supported us in caring for Shibu (as well as being his greatest friend!) along with his wife and two small children. Last but not least, a teenage boy for whom we are awaiting foster care clearance will soon be living with us. We are 9 in all! United by our love for Shibu and the care he needs.
A short while ago we were offered the opportunity to purchase a used but in good condition minibus, with 9 seats and equipped with a handicap platform. A really valuable opportunity for us given the difficulty in getting around. In fact, a simple shopping trip to the supermarket or moving all together on the weekend always requires two cars.
In our daily routine we try to involve Shibu in everything since due to his difficulties he cannot stay in the wheelchair so many hours, but for him to get out and have as normal a life as possible with his family is vital.
The amount to cover the cost of the minibus is around 10,000 € and to be able to reach it we need your help.
You can support us in two ways:
- Donate to my fundraiser: any contribution, even the smallest, will make a difference.
- On the other hand, if you want to do something even bigger, you too can activate a personal fundraiser and help us involve many new people we otherwise could not reach by asking your friends, family and colleagues to support you with a donation.
We trust in your generosity to make life less difficult for Shibu and all of us!
