These houses are all half-destroyed-but it's a start.

Sunday, July 20 is my birthday, and at this time usually some loved ones ask me what I wish for this holiday. This year like every time a little absent-mindedly I thought about it... and the answer I gave myself is that I would like Peace and Dignity.I wish for cannons to stop smoking, for planes to stop having bombs to drop, for people to sleep peaceful dreams in their homes without fear of being killed and driven away by violence. Therefore, this year if you want to give me a gift, I ask you to support Operation Dove's presence in Lebanon/Syria. If we know each other even a little bit you will know how much I value the overseas presence of this Civil Peace Corps of the Pope John XXIII Community. This year with the Operation Dove group we were able to go to Syria after the fall of the regime, and now on tiptoe the group is entering into the relationships and daily lives of people in a town in the province of Homs, to figure out with old and new friendships how to accompany them on this new journey. We have been 13 years in Lebanon, we have experienced together with these people great pains, labors and together also some joys. Today we are seeing family after family return to their town or village in Syria. The future is uncertain, but we start from there to be nonviolent presence, to weave a network of ties that will be able to play a role in the prospects for peace, that will take away space and energy from revenge and clientelism. This is what I wish for my birthday. Thank you!Cate

Sunday, July 20 is my birthday, and at this time usually some loved ones ask me what I wish for this holiday. This year like every time a little absent-mindedly I thought about it... and the answer I gave myself is that I would like Peace and Dignity.

I wish for cannons to stop smoking, for planes to stop having bombs to drop, for people to sleep peaceful dreams in their homes without fear of being killed and driven away by violence.

The future is uncertain, but we start from there to be nonviolent presence, to weave a network of ties that will be able to play a role in the prospects for peace, that will take away space and energy from revenge and clientelism.
