The Smile Bus

Luisa, on behalf of the Pope John XXIII Community, is in charge of recovering food products and distributing them to families in the area who, because of the pandemic, are no longer able to go shopping and buy enough to put a hot meal on the table. The road is long and often the food to be delivered is fresh or frozen: for this reason it is necessary to buy a refrigerated van that allows to preserve the food without altering its state. Let's help Luisa, your support is essential to continue to give a meal to those in difficulty.

The Smile Bus

The road is long and often the food to be delivered is fresh or frozen: for this reason it is necessary to buy a refrigerated van that allows to preserve the food without altering its state. Let's help Luisa, your support is essential to continue to give a meal to those in difficulty.

Since 2005 Luisa, after having taken in for many years together with her husband Andrea marginalised people, young and old who needed a family, has been working full time - on behalf of the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII - on the recovery of food donated by supermarkets and large food chains, by local companies and by the Food Bank: she leaves from Monterenzio (BO) in the Idice Valley, towards Bologna and up north to Ferrara. On his way he meets families, men and women who, because of the pandemic, are no longer able to go shopping, to buy the necessary to put a hot meal on the table.
The goal is twofold: to help those who knock on our door and save the food that would otherwise be thrown away, always following the words of Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si': with respect for Creation we really listen to the cry of the poor.

The road is long and very often the food to be delivered is fresh or frozen. Precisely for this reason, it is necessary to buy a refrigerated van that allows us to preserve the food without altering its condition, especially in the warmer seasons. Without an adequate means of transport Luisa will no longer be able to transport perishable food during the summer months, neither to those who can no longer do their shopping, nor to the homes, therapeutic communities, Family Homes and families of the Community that are supplied weekly.
Up to now, at least 400 people have been reached every week thanks to the many volunteers who have joined in. Every day, in addition to food, Luisa, together with the young people, brings a smile to those who are just waiting for a friendly hand at their doorstep.

The Community has already found a suitable minibus but the cost, €24,000, is very high. Part of the amount needed has been covered thanks to the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna but your help is essential to reach the goal . Create and start a fundraiser, share it with your acquaintances and friends, or support those who have already started it with a donation. Let's help Luisa together to raise 14,000€. Thank you for what you can do.
