The heart of the home: a new kitchen for the Bruno and Caterina Family Home
Bruno and Caterina are the father and mother of the Casa Famiglia Sacra Famiglia of Nazareth, a welcoming reality of the Pope John XXIII Community, which for more than 20 years has been giving love welcoming boys in difficulty, often with disabilities. Now they need your help to raise the €25,000 needed to renovate the kitchen and offer their kids a safe environment where they can share emotions and build precious new memories.
Bruno and Caterina are the “mom and dad” of the Sacra Famiglia di Nazareth Family Home, a residential care facility run by the Pope John XXIII Community, located in Pessione, a hamlet of the city of Chieri, in the province of Turin.
In addition to their two biological sons, Andrea and Paolo, they have welcomed four other young people into their home: 16-year-old Sofia, who has a severe physical and cognitive disability; 30-year-old Gabriel, who has autism; and two adult sisters.
Since 2010, their family has lived in the parish house, which they have maintained and improved over the years to make it safe. Now, however, they need your support to renovate the kitchen; specifically, they need to redo the electrical and plumbing systems to ensure maximum safety for all the young people and purchase new furnishings to transform this space into a more organized and spacious area for everything needed for cooking.
For Bruno and Caterina, the kitchen is the most important room in the house: this is where they gather, share thoughts and feelings, laugh, and learn to cook; it’s where they welcome guests by offering them coffee or a tasty treat. It’s a special place where they can also create their most cherished memories. Like when, to welcome a new young person, everyone prepares pizza together, turning a moment that might otherwise be difficult into one to cherish in their hearts with a smile.
