From a friary to a house to continue welcoming people in difficulty

The Pope John XXIII Community has received free use of the Convent of Arcidosso (GR), but in order to live there and welcome children and people in difficulty, many works are needed to make it compliant and accessible. Help the family and the Community to meet this expense!

We are Alessia and Antonio, mom and dad of a family open to the welcoming of the Pope John XXIII Community. At the moment our family consists of 8 people: besides us there is 7-year-old Luca, a blind child whom we first took in and then adopted, and our 5 natural children, Michele, Irene, Letizia, Benedetta and Giuseppe. We are already a large family, but we want to continue to open our doors to those in need, and we had been looking for a larger home for some time. Then, Providence did its own thing: the Community received free use of the Convent of the Capuchin Friars in Arcidosso, in the province of Grosseto, which was in danger of closure, so that it could be used to welcome the least of these. As a family, we accepted the proposal to bring such an enchanting place back to life: one part of the convent will host our open family, the other part will be destined for the hospitality of groups for moments of prayer and reflection, for after-school activities, for the realization of aggregative moments for young people and children with and without disabilities, and for the reception of homeless people during the winter months.
Until a few months ago a Nigerian girl with her few-month-old baby was with us, and soon a priest, made disabled after a mountain accident, will arrive. The facility is perfect for us but it needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard and this latest reception does not allow us to be able to wait, we have to do everything to make this house suitable for the needs of a person with a reduced motor capacity, in order to allow him a dignified life.
For us, but especially for the people whom we will now be able to accommodate, some work is needed for a total of 35 thousand euros: construction of a bathroom for the disabled, removal of architectural barriers, completion of the heating system and the construction of a black water purification system. That is why we have launched this fundraiser: we are asking all of you to help the Pope John XXIII Community to cover these expenses and allow us to start a new chapter in our lives: a family that gives not only a "roof" to stay under, but love, attention and care from a mother, a father, brothers and sisters. The Diocese of Siena has approved a contribution of 10,110 euros to support this project, so our goal is to reach at least half of the necessary funds. Your help will enable us to realize this life project.
