Food aid in Ukraine: a lifeline for war-affected populations
For the past 3 years the Pope John XXIII Community, together with many young volunteers from Operation Dove, has chosen to experience firsthand the horror of the war in Ukraine. our efforts take place inside the "Dom Kultury" (House of Culture) in Kherson, a shelter for hundreds of people. We made a promise to them, to do what we could to get food aid trucks from Italy. In a desolate city, deprived of everything and life itself, we cannot allow children, the elderly and families to go hungry. Make a donation now.
For three years, the Pope John XXIII Community, together with many young people from Operation Dove who believe in nonviolence, has chosen to experience firsthand the terrible conflict in Ukraine. We left three days after the war broke out, and every day since then we have been sharing risks and difficulties, fears and hopes with the population. Today we are still on the front lines, in Kherson, where missiles are still falling on the city, the wounded and the orphans are more and more.
For more than a year, the efforts of the Pope John XXIII Community, have been taking place within the walls of the "Dom Kultury" (House of Culture) in Kherson, a historic building scarred by bombing, but tenaciously rebuilt thanks to the tireless work of volunteers. This place has become a refuge for hundreds of people, especially the elderly who have chosen to stay in Kherson, despite the city being among the hardest hit by the conflict.
At the "Dom Kultury" center in Kherson, the distribution of food, made possible mainly by the generosity of donors, is a concrete sign of hope. The hot meal offered restores dignity to people who have lost everything, who no longer have a home, who have lost relatives and friends in the war. In a city emptied, deprived of everything, deprived of life, we cannot allow these children, the elderly and families to go hungry.
We have made a promise to them: to do what we can to get food aid trucks from Italy. The last time bags with canned goods and flour were distributed was more than two months ago. We cannot wait any longer.
Please help us fulfill this promise and raise the 15,000 euros needed to get the trucks that will transport food and basic necessities.
Imagine the difference those trucks would make, how much relief they would bring. With your help, we can turn that promise into reality, bringing help, hope and support to those who have nothing left.
