Can you help us buy a stair lift?
We are Maurizio and Laura, father and mother of the Family House "Our Lady of the Guard," of the Pope John XXIII Community.
We live in Busalla, a small village in Liguria, and for over 15 years we have been a family for many lonely people in need of the love and care that only a family can give. Over the years, our home has been a refuge for women who escaped from the streets because they were forced into prostitution, young people with difficult pasts who encountered prison, drug addicts, families looking for help to get back on their feet, and severely disabled people whom no one wanted. For all of them we open wide the doors of our home and open our hearts, healing wounds together and building a different story with them.
Each new day that begins is an opportunity to reconfirm our YES to welcoming and sharing, for our children and for all the people who live with us today. To do this takes commitment, dedication and a lot of strength.
Unfortunately, a few years ago Laura had a serious leg injury and despite the many operations she has undergone, she has not been able to recover full function and now, in order to walk, she has to use crutches all the time. This has never stopped her from taking care of her home and the people in it but today we really need your help so that we can allow her and our daily lives to be better.
Our house is on two floors because in order to accommodate everyone who asks for our help we need space. Laura is now unable to take the stairs, and it is essential and urgent for us to install a stair lift that will make her fully independent.
To do this we need you, because the Pope John XXIII Community, a large family spread over more than 500 foster homes, where so many people like us are dedicated to those who are alone, cannot afford this sudden expense at this time. We are confident that together with you who know us, we will be able to reach the amount needed to purchase and install a stair lift for our home.
