Let's furnish new welcoming spaces together
A new solidarity "village" of the Pope John XXIII Community has sprung up in Noce di Mercatale, a place designed for the mutual support of three family homes and one family open to welcoming. 50,000€ is needed to complete the furnishings. With your contribution we can help these families give life to these places and hope to the people who will inhabit them.
More than 20 years ago, Vincenzo and Tiziana became the “mom and dad” of the first group home run by the Pope John XXIII Community in the Bologna area, specifically in the Idice Valley. Over the years, their home filled with joy and hope, welcoming countless children and young people with disabilities, who were also involved in working the land—an activity that tangibly fostered their social integration.
Soon, Vincenzo and Tiziana’s example inspired others: the valley thus came alive with as many as seven group homes and two therapeutic communities, fostering solidarity and mutual support. A true richness of life that restored the joy of relationships to the young people who had lost it.
Today, Vincenzo and Tiziana are no longer with us, but their dream lives on: to build a large house in Noce di Mercatale, designed to house three group homes and a family open to welcoming others. Here, the families will be able to provide each other with the mutual help and support they need, especially as the challenges of aging set in.
Construction of the new homes is complete, but to fully realize this dream, the families need to raise €50,000 to purchase the furniture needed to furnish the new homes.
With your support , we can help them achieve this goal and bring to life a special place where people with disabilities, those in need , and lonely seniors who have been welcomed can give and receive support—and where the joy of being together will heal the wounds of those who have no one left.
In 1980, Vincenzo and Tiziana’s honeymoon was interrupted by a phone call that changed their lives —and that of an entire community— forever. Don Oreste called them with an urgent plea: a six-month-old baby in Bologna needed a mom and a dad. They returned, and their home in Mercatale became the Community’s first family home in the Bologna area.
Since then, a wonderful story of welcome and love has unfolded, one that continues today in the family homes throughout their valley. Support this project, keep the memory of Vincenzo and Tiziana alive, and help us bring this place of renewal to life for the most vulnerable.
