A barrier-free home for the St. Gemma Peace Family Home
Andrea and Donatella are the father and mother of the Santa Gemma Peace Family House, a reality of the Pope John XXIII Community that takes in people with fragile conditions. Now they need your help to raise the €2,000 needed to renovate the outdoor spaces of their home, making it safe and welcoming even for the people with disabilities they welcome.
Andrea and Donatella are the father and mother of the Santa Gemma Peace Family House, a welcoming reality of the Pope John XXIII Community, located in Montecarlo (LU). As of today, five people live in the house; three have severe disabilities and have motor difficulties.
As they tell us, their life choice is an example of unconditional love:"Total gratuity and the giving of our lives are at the center of our choice. It is not volunteering or a job, but a choice of life 24 hours a day, every day of the year, fully sharing existence with those we take in."
Unfortunately, the serenity and safety of the welcomed people is compromised due to some issues related to the outdoor spaces of the house: the terrace canopy is now unusable due to its deterioration, taking away the possibility of being able to have a protected place where they can enjoy moments outside. The front yard and access road have also become a problem. Mud often makes them impassable, obstructing the road and making access to the house difficult, especially for E. who can only move around in a wheelchair.
In order to renovate the exterior spaces of the house, making them safe and welcoming for everyone, €12,000 is needed. Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca will cover a significant part of this expense.
However, to reach the goal and start the work, we are still 2,000€ short. That is why they now need your help, which is essential to help them create a better environment for all the people welcomed.
Andrea and Donatella's house has become over the years a shelter for so many people who needed a safe place to stay for longer or shorter periods. They opened their doors to those who struggled with the justice system, those struggling with pathological addictions, women survivors of the horror of human trafficking, and vulnerable migrants looking for a fresh start. Each person welcomed has found in the "Pace S. Gemma" family home not just a roof, but a real family.
Support their project with a donation to enable them to continue caring for the fragile people they welcome.
