Betty grew up in our “Bikira Maria wa Fatima” children’s home in Tanzania; she fulfilled her dream of becoming a doctor. Now she has the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in England, but she needs about €14,500 by the end of October to confirm her enrollment. Your help is essential to enabling Betty to realize her dream and serve the most vulnerable people in her country.
Betty is a young doctor. When she was just five years old , she was taken in by our “Bikira Maria wa Fatima” group home in Tanzania.
Ever since she was little, she has always shown herself to be a responsible child, always ready to help. She consistently excelled in her studies, so much so that she was transferred to a private school thanks to the support of the local diocese, ultimately fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor: after graduating in 2022, she now works as a doctor in the maternity and neonatal ward of a public hospital in Ubungo Province. She has become a point of reference for all the “brothers and sisters” who grew up with her at the Family Home, who still turn to her today for advice or support.
Ever since she graduated, Betty has always wanted to pursue a specialty, while never stopping her work in the service of others. Now she has a great opportunity to make her dream come true: enrolling in a master’s program in Public Health at the University of Leeds in England, with a focus on the challenges of maternity and neonatology in the poorest areas. The hospital where she works and some university professors who have offered her the chance to collaborate on various projects will provide her with a stipend, allowing her to contribute toward her tuition and cover her living expenses. Betty is ready to make any sacrifice, even taking out a bank loan to be repaid little by little, because her dream is to devote herself to research and continue to grow professionally so she can serve her people in Tanzania.
The one-year program has a total cost of approximately 30,000 euros. To confirm her enrollment and pay the first installment, Betty needs about 14,500 euros by the end of October. She will cover the rest of her living expenses herself, thanks to the work she will do on site and the collaboration she has already established with the university professors who have offered her research opportunities.
Helping Betty reach this goal means supporting a young woman who, despite a childhood marked by pain and hardship, has become a pillar of strength for her entire family and her patients.
