We renovate the Big Family kitchen
The large family of the Nazareth Guest House in Pacentro, of the Pope John XXIII Community, has a desire: to renovate the old kitchen. Their noisy and colorful daily life is concentrated mainly in this place, which is the heart of the days spent together, between homework, games and shared meals. Help them make this dream come true!
The kitchen has always been that part of the house that smells of family, love, scents and shared delicacies. In the Casa di accoglienza "Nazareth" of the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII, in the town of Pacentro, this place is the heart of the big family that lives there, the "Big Family XXL" as the young people of the house like to call themselves. And it really is an "extra-large" family that of Adele and Sergio, who have become mom and dad to teenage children and lonely people who have found welcome and love in their embrace. Today there are 12 people in the house and everyday life is full of the voices of the children, of those who impatiently wait for lunch, of those who run from other rooms at the call of the scents. No one backs down when there is a hand to lend! Adults try their hand at preparing vegetables and soups, while the children prefer a hearty carbonara with the taste of green food! And the cooking, thanks to the different origins of the family members, ranges from chips with sausage to ramen and Chinese dumplings.
The table is 4 meters long, because when there are many people there must be room for everyone, and it is difficult to cover with custom-made tablecloths. It is always a canvas painted with many daily events, including children's chores and homework, clippings and board games, and of course flour and various ingredients, ready to be mixed to create bread and homemade lunches, gathered in a single scent that smells of affection, warmth and family.
But the kitchen has reached 15 years of "service" and the signs of time are more than evident: the sink and the doors are worn and do not close well, the fronts, worn in several parts, in some places have come off. Paper and adhesive tapes hold the worn panels together.
Thetime has really come for a renovation that will make the kitchen of this Big Family decent, but above all efficient so that the welcome continues.
The cost for the kitchen to be functional again is €5,000. Adele and Sergio would like to make this great gift to their wonderful noisy colorful family and the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII recognizes the urgent need. But at this moment there are no resources to allocate to this unforeseen expense because the needs of Family Homes present in over 40 countries around the world are many.
