We renovate the Big Family kitchen
The large family of the Nazareth Guest House in Pacentro, of the Pope John XXIII Community, has a desire: to renovate the old kitchen. Their noisy and colorful daily life is concentrated mainly in this place, which is the heart of the days spent together, between homework, games and shared meals. Help them make this dream come true!
The kitchen has always been that part of the home that tastes of family, love, scents and shared delicacies. In the "Nazareth" Home of the Pope John XXIII Community, in the town of Pacentro, this place is the heart of the big family that inhabits it, the "Big Family XXL" as the young people of the house like to call themselves. And it is indeed an "extra-large" family that of Adele and Sergio who have become mom and dad to teenage children and lonely people who have found welcome and love in their embrace. Today there are 12 of them in the house, and the daily routine is filled with the hubbub of the children, those who impatiently wait for lunch, and those who run from other rooms at the call of scents. No one backs down when there is a hand to lend! Adults try their hand at preparing vegetables and purees, the kids prefer a hearty carbonara to the taste of green foods! And the cooking, thanks to the diverse backgrounds of family members, ranges from chips with sausage to ramen and Chinese dumplings.
The table is 4 meters long, because when there are many people there needs to be room for everyone, and it is difficult to cover with custom-made tablecloths. It is always a painted canvas of many daily events, including the children's chores and homework, clippings and board games, and of course flour and various ingredients, ready to be kneaded to give life to bread and homemade lunches, gathered in one scent that smells of affection, warmth and family.
But the kitchen has reached 15 years of "service," and the signs of time are more than evident: the sink and doors are worn and do not close properly, the fronts, worn in several places, have come off in some places. Paper and adhesive tapes hold the worn-out panel cleavages together.
Itis really time for a renovation that will make the kitchen of this Big Family decent, but above all efficient for the reception to continue.
The cost for the kitchen to be functional again is €5,000. Adele and Sergio would like to give this great gift to their wonderful noisy colorful family and the Pope John XXIII Community recognizes the urgent need. But at this time there are no resources to allocate for this unexpected expense because the needs of the Family Homes present in over 40 countries around the world are many.
