Ostriches or Eagles?

Like me, the whole world knows well how these last years have been particular because of the Covid, a situation that no one would have ever expected; we keep telling ourselves that "everything will be fine", and I, with the same hope with which we repeat this sentence to ourselves, decided to open this collection, now I'll explain why. It would be nice, in spite of what we are living, to raise our eyes and turn our gaze elsewhere, even if it is not at all easy. In my opinion we should be a little less ostrich and more eagle, because, unfortunately, there are other viruses that we often pretend not to know, when we should start moving to eliminate them, they are much worse than the flu, because they attack the soul: selfishness, hatred, greed ... And then there's war and innocent people being forced to flee their homeland so they can live without the fear of a bomb destroying their home at any moment or a gun killing someone they love. "Being born on the wrong side of the world" is not a light phrase, it's true, because it means that those viruses are still present; for this new year and those to follow, I, my family and a large group of people who are part of our territory, we have made a commitment to welcome one of the many Syrian families who suffer the consequences of these viruses every day with the hope that "everything will be all right" for them. For this reason I hope with all my heart that, despite our current life, we can all give some of this hope to those who live worse than us. Thank you!!!

The fundraiser supports the project: Restarting away from war
Total project goal: 6.000 €

Zeyd and his wife Aidha, who fled the war in Syria, lived for eight long years in the Tel Abbas refugee camp in Lebanon, together with their four children. Today, thanks to the humanitarian corridors set up by the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII and other organisations, they have arrived in Santa Venerina, a small Sicilian town that will accompany them on their journey of integration. Help them to start a new life with dignity and confidence in the future!
