Be Drop with me too!
Fundraising by Ivan Del Negro
When I told friends and relatives that I would be leaving for Colombia with Operation Dove, in many cases I was told, "But who makes you do it?" or "Things will never change anyway, what do you think your presence there will accomplish?"
Questions that, to be honest, I began to ask myself as well.
One day, however, I read a phrase that Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, "What we do is just a drop in the ocean, but if we didn't do it the ocean would have one less drop." Here is my answer: I will go and be a drop.
In Colombia, Operation Dove supports and accompanies the Comunidad de Peace of San José de Apartadó, which has chosen nonviolent resistance to resist the threat of armed groups there and to defend the environment and the territory (rich in mineral resources).
I still marvel daily at the fundamental importance of Operation Dove's presence here. Just the other day I heard one of the leaders of the Community say, "Dove accompanies us and protects us twenty-four hours a day, he struggles with us, he is part of our family."
I think these words most of all can explain in a comprehensive manner what so many little drops can do for these people.
If you have the chance, be a drop yourself. Help us protect the Comunidad de Paz!
