Fundraising by Chiara Comai

Hello, my name is Chiara and I am in Greece as a volunteer with Operation Dove, the Nonviolent Peace Corps of the Pope John XXIII Community. I decided to spend three months of my life here because I felt a strong desire to see with my own eyes what people who wish to reach Europe find. Here I meet so many people with different stories, those who have been here for a long time, those who have been here for a short time, those who live in Greece and those who are just passing through. Here women, men and children, after a long journey, have to come to terms with a great dream being destroyed and an unwelcoming society.

We Operation Dove volunteers share with them a little piece of their story and their path by spending pleasant moments together. With our gestures and words, we try to give them back the dignity they lose on a daily basis and fight the injustice that reigns along this border. During our chats about journeys, departures, destinations and dreams I can see deep in the eyes of these people a flame of hope that still, with courage, shines.
