Waiting to exist
Fundraising by Martino Iori
Hi I'm Martino, I came here to Greece to stand alongside people on the move, in this long struggle to be seen, to be considered. Being a migrant in fact here means disappearing, approaching non-existence, being confined in remote camps with no services for an indefinite time. I think waiting is the form of violence enacted by Greek institutions supported by the European Union, arbitrarily postponing and delaying the decision about these people's right to exist.
And it is in this waiting that we stand, at their side precisely, carrying this heavy burden together for a piece of the road.
Creating a relationship, in this dimension of waiting, means trying to recreate the "normalcy" that people on the move have lost. Sharing a cup of tea, a chat on a bench, laughing and crying together or simply being silent, allə help to regain the dignity and humanity that this system constantly tramples on.
