Freeing mothers from prostitution: a battle against poverty and despair
Fundraising by Sara Esposito
In the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, prostitution is not a free choice but a dead end where women of all ages end up. In a social reality that is extremely poor and lacking in real opportunities, it is the most vulnerable who end up victims of prostitution.
The women I meet every day here in Nairobi and whom we welcome into our reality, Amini Home, have stories of violence, loneliness and abandonment behind them. Because here I realized that the worst poverty is relational poverty, not having anyone to support you.
These women, almost all single mothers, find in Amini Home a family, some psychological and medical support, a path of empowerment that allows them to develop skills necessary to enter the world of work and become able to raise children with serenity. A true path of liberation and emancipation.
Of course, the costs to maintain the facility, the costs of medical expenses and educational activities for them and the children are many but they are a real and concrete investment for their inclusion in society, to give them dignity and rekindle, after a life of suffering and exploitation, the hope of a different future. A future that does not exist when feeding your children means going through the daily commodification of your body for very few shillings.
That is why we need your help: I have chosen to live here with these women and help them on their journey, you can help them by supporting them with a donation. Whether small or large it will make a difference in the lives of these mothers, these women. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
