Unbreakable borders: the resilience of refugee people in Greece

Hi, I'm Maria and I will soon be celebrating my 25th birthday in Greece where Operation Dove has been present since 2021 to stand by people on the move. Greece is a destination for many people fleeing war, persecution, poverty and discrimination. However, what they find upon arrival often does not match their hopes. Waiting for them is a system that isolates, marginalizes and hinders those seeking safety and dignity in Europe. Refugee camps, unfortunately, are veritable open-air prisons. Located in industrial areas far from cities, they lack adequate transportation links, and health and social care is grossly inadequate compared to the number of people residing there. These camps, which should be places of temporary shelter, turn into spaces where families and individuals remain stranded for years, forced to live in isolation and deprived of basic freedoms. It is unacceptable that the European Union continues to tolerate and normalize these serious human rights violations. I and other volunteers from Operation Dove strive every day to stand alongside people on the move, in and out of the camp. We share moments of everyday life and support them in their life journeys. We try to give them back the dignity that was denied them the very moment they set foot in Europe. Can you help me continue the project with a donation? Every contribution, large or small, brings hope and support. Together we can turn our efforts into real change. Thank you for your support.

The fundraiser supports the project: In Greece to walk alongside migrant people - 2025
Total project goal: 20.000 €

Greece is the European Union's first port of call for those fleeing war and persecution. Those who arrive here often find themselves alone, forced to live on the streets. Volunteers from the Pope John XXIII Community, together with Operation Dove, visit people living in and outside refugee camps to offer them support and services, and monitor and report on the human rights violations they suffer. Their presence is crucial: support them on this journey of peace.
